Brilliant, but useless: Why AI needs YOU

Ever met someone so smart… they were kinda dumb?

I lived with a girl who I was convinced would burn the house down. She’d leave her flat iron on high, sitting on a towel. 🫣

One of the smartest, most creative people I know — just not blessed in the common sense department.

That’s how I want you to think about AI.

It’s like working with someone who has a genius-level IQ, a photographic memory, and 24/7 availability—but who’s never held a real job or lived outside their parents’ house.

  • They’ve read every book but never had to apply the knowledge.
  • They don’t know what to assume.
  • They need you to teach them how to human.

If you’ve ever typed something into ChatGPT and gotten a response that made you go “this ain't it”, you’re not alone. You probably gave it too little information and expected it to know what you meant.

No context = no quality.

New Ways to Use ChatGPT (You Probably Haven’t Tried Yet)

These are some prompt use-case examples from Social Media Marketing World I'm bookmarking because they actually work at delivering better outputs...

Each one points AI toward the true north of your prompt so it stops flailing and starts pulling its weight.

If it keeps giving you vague responses, tweak your original prompt until it reads like a text message you should probably worry about. (Long. Specific. Rambling. A tad unhinged.)

For Marketers

  1. Second Set of Eyes: Run a bias check on your photos before a campaign goes live.
  2. Identifying Patterns: Analyze a CSV of YTD metrics, ask it to pull insights on seasonality, behavior changes, and other factors like frequency.
  3. Meeting Notes + Action Items: Transcribe a client call and pull out the conversation topics and action items for each party. (You can also automate this to auto-assign to team members in your project management system.)

For Managers

  1. Train Once, Reference Forever: Record a training meeting, upload the transcript or MP4 file. Ask it to turn it into an SOP for future training uses.
  2. Goal Setting & Development Plans: Break complex or lofty goals into manageable KPIs with this growth trajectory in mind.
  3. Decision Clarity: Ask it to weigh pros and cons between your current project management system and a potential one.

For Content Creation

  1. Repurposing Content: Feed in your FAQ or customer service messages to build swipe-able carousel posts.
  2. The Path Less Traveled By: Ask for "what's missing" in your content calendar, email workflow, etc.
  3. What 'Good' Looks Like: Before giving your prompt, upload key documents like your brand guideline, a project content brief, project scope, and examples of your best-performing or favorite branded documents to train on. This lets the AI understand what you're going for — your answers will be MUCH closer.

AI TOOLS (other than ChatGPT) TO HAVE ON YOUR RADAR

  • Descript – Transcript-based video editing with AI voiceovers, filler word removal, and screen recording
  • Runway – Turns photos into animated video (motion, zoom, effects)
  • Sora / Pika – AI-powered text-to-video generation
  • OpusClip – Auto-edits long-form video into Reels/TikToks with captions + hook detection
  • Poppy – Personalized whiteboard-style videos trained on your voice

“Wait... I didn’t know you could do THAT with AI!!”

That’s the reaction I want you (or someone you forward this to) to have at least once while reading this.

If I learned anything at Social Media Marketing World 2025, it's this:

  • The trick with AI isn’t learning how to use it.
  • The trick is knowing what to ask, then how much context to give it.

Sure, AI is smart on its own.

But book smarts only get you so far.

ChatGPT has endless access to information. But YOU bring the context, the voice, the opinion — THE LIFE.

Use its strengths. Give it direction. That’s when it gets good.

Save this email for the next time you’re stuck, tired, or need a second brain.

  • Better prompts = better output.
  • Better output = less wasted time.
  • And less wasted time? That’s my love language.

📬 Got a teammate who still thinks AI is just for writing Instagram captions? Forward this to them.

Or don't and be the one who just "knows how to do things faster.”

Either way, you’ve got the edge now. Let’s see what you build with it.

Ciao for now ✌️,
